SUMMARY:Summer Pottery Kiln Opening
DESCRIPTION:Twice a year\, master potter\, Mark Hewitt\, hosts an open studio event\, called a ‘Kiln Opening’ to present the pots from his most recent firing. This is the 111th firing of the huge wood-burning kiln Mark built in 1983\, and the 40th anniversary of the first firing of that same kiln back in 1984! \nAt the Kiln Opening visitors can tour the pottery\, walk inside the massive kilns\, and shop for that perfect mug\, or ice cream bowl\, or flower vase for yourself\, or discover the perfect gift\, maybe a pitcher\, plate\, platter or planter\, in the large barn/showroom/gallery. \nSeveral of Mark’s life-size ‘Big Pots’ – massive vases\, jars and sentinels that find their way to museum and private collections across the globe will also be on display. \nFamilies are always welcome – there are swings! \nCan’t make it to the Kiln Opening?\nYou can also visit the pottery by appointment by emailing sales@hewittpottery.com or calling 919-656-8889.

Community-led and community-driven\, CORE hosts an annual Juneteenth Festival through the intentional stewardship of our planning team. Since in 2018\, the Juneteenth event has transformed – growing from our initial location accommodating 100 people\, to over 3000 attendees joining us from across the Triangle region.
