SUMMARY:Sacred Science: The Works of Boots Quimby and Andrew Wilson
DESCRIPTION:The Pittsboro Gallery of Arts is pleased to present the works of Painter\, Boots Quimby\, and Mixed Media Artist\, Andrew Wilson\, in a Featured Artist Show that will be on display from Tuesday\, August 4th until Sunday\, September 6th. There will be a reception on Friday\, August 21st from 5:00-8:00 pm. \nBoots Quimby’s acrylic paintings have been evolving. Much as she has moved from a career in molecular genetics to the life of an artist\, her work has moved from representational pieces to more intuitive\, spiritual works. Quimby writes\, “Each painting begins with an abstract geometric foundation inspired by patterns\, symmetry\, and the order found in nature. From there\, the image gradually reveals itself.” \nThese vividly colorful paintings combine images that are sometimes surprising\, but Quimby’s sincere quest for a greater understanding of the universe is represented in these combinations. She writes\, “Human anatomy\, botanical forms\, celestial bodies\, and geometric structures function as a visual language bridging science and spirituality. For me\, painting is a disciplined act of listening—an attempt to make visible what lies beneath the surface of the seen world\, where science\, spirituality\, and mystery meet.” \nAndrew Wilson uses locally sourced wood to create sculptures\, high-voltage wood burned wall art\, and delicately balanced mobiles. He sees the beauty in each piece of wood\, incorporating its grain pattern and shape into the image or sculpture he creates; this thoughtful approach to his medium encourages the viewer to notice the wonder of this natural material\, as well. For this show\, Wilson has felt that some of his painted silver sculptures will best accompany Quimby’s paintings. Wilson writes\, “I like to simplify the color of the wood\, highlighting the unique texture.” The resulting sculptures are contemporary but familiar\, rustic but elevated. \nPlease join us as we celebrate the works of these very talented artists. \nThe Pittsboro Gallery of Arts is an artist-owned cooperative Fine Art and Craft Gallery located a few steps north of the Chatham County Courthouse circle. SUMMARY:“Wild Things”—The Paintings of Shannon Bueker
DESCRIPTION:The Pittsboro Gallery of Arts is proud to present the works of guest artist\, Shannon Bueker\, in a Featured Artist Show that will be on display from Tuesday\, September 8thth until Sunday\, October 4th. There will be a reception on Friday\, September 18th\, from 5:00-8:00 pm. \nShannon Bueker has been an integral part of the arts in Chatham County for many decades. She is one of the founding members of the organization that became the Chatham Artists Guild\, serving as president many times\, and faithfully supporting the work of other artists as she crafted her own artistic career. She is one of the people responsible for making Chatham County a haven for artists and a destination for art lovers. \nBueker’s stunning acrylic and watercolor paintings are easily identifiable as her own; her color choices and incredible brushwork capture the energy of her subjects while maintaining artistic balance. This show\, “Wild Things\,” will include paintings that feature some of Bueker’s favorite subjects; visitors will see a Goddess figure carrying a bear in a bag around her waist\, wild horses prancing\, deer sedately grazing\, rabbits and dogs and snakes and many\, many more creatures practically cavorting off their canvases. \nBueker’s drawings and paintings have long been motivated by the need to respond to the beauty she sees around her. The amazing grace of trees and plants\, the fluidity of animals\, and the outrageous colors of the earth all provoke her to paint and draw. We are an inclusive community of friends who enjoy a diversity of art forms\, activities\, and fun socializing together. \nDANCE: and move your body’s way that is natural for you with both form and freedom. We explore a variety of guided dance form and choreography as well as freedance co-created by participants. Dance styles vary from pop\, hip hop\, jazz\, lyrical\, modern to whatever style inspires the group.
