January 21, 2017 @ 2:00 pm - 3:00 pmFree
This event is free and open to the public – we kindly request that you RSVP via email here. We look forward to seeing you at this event!
Everyone loves a good story. We love stories so much that many of us would like to try hand at writing them. Fiction, however, is challenging. In this workshop, we’ll meet that challenge head on with an engaging framework called “The Five Facts of Fiction” — a set principles that common to all great stories. You’ll create a rough sketch of a complete novel or short story with complex characters, compelling conflict, and a setting as rich as any you’ve ever known. You’ll also write a few lines of your opening scene. And all of this will happen in 90 minutes. Writers from 8 to 88 have enjoyed this workshop for the last ten years. And everyone – absolutely everyone – comes away with a good story.

About Margot Carmichael Lester
Margot Carmichael Lester is the founder of The Word Factory and living proof that a person can be old school and au courant at the same time. She still writes regularly for the Los Angeles Business Journal and the International Cinematographers Guild Magazine, but most of her work these days is digital. She was doing brand journalism before the term even existed, creating nearly 1000 articles for Match.com in the early 00s. Currently, she manages a team of pros serving as virtual brand newsrooms for her clients. When she’s not slinging words, she consults with start-ups and Fortune 100 companies on communications strategy, media relations and operations. She’s got three books to her name, including Be a Better Writer, on which she collaborated with her husband, Steve Peha. In her off-hours, she love’s to cook (and eat); listen to music; and follow local, state and national politics — except when she’s watching football or the UNC Tar Heels.
