PITTSBORO – Chatham Arts Council’s (CAC) JumpstART is Chatham-made, offering small commissions to Chatham artists to create art that reflects back to us who we want to be in Chatham. From tiny to medium-sized projects, JumpstART commissions artists to create work and then share that work in the public sphere.
CAC is committed to commissioning and sharing a body of work by diverse artists across disciplines that is specific to Chatham County. Last season, artists were prompted with the concept of “The Locals”, creating artwork inspired by Chatham County residents, either past or present. The exhibition, featured at ClydeFEST 2024, was visited by nearly 2,500 people and included works inspired by such Chatham icons as Pam Smith, Mary Nettles, Clyde Jones, Marjorie Hudson, and more.
This season, CAC is focusing on a group we all want to know more about: Chatham residents in their 20s. For “The Locals at Twenty-Something”, artists will connect with one Chatham zillenial–or with a small group of twenty-somethings–and let us know something about their lives; their outlook on the world; their past, present, or future. Your muse can be anyone who’s past high school age through 29, or even a freshly-minted 30-year-old. The idea is to explore the lives of folks who are in early adulthood.
Proposals are being accepted now through January 21. Finished works will be presented at ClydeFEST 2025 on Sunday, April 13, at the Chatham Ag Center.
