Three rivers converge at the farm where watercolor and acrylic artist Beth Bale finds her inspiration. She shares her space with horses, guineas, chickens and pet ferrets.
And snakes. Lots of snakes. She’s currently relocating her snake population away from the chicken coops and the farm.
Passionate about nature, the environment and the animals in her care, Beth allows all creatures great and small to influence her work. Whether on paper, clay board or wall murals, her work springs from that deep passion. She is also a muralist but has found that murals are best done only when inspiration arises from some core, inner urge.
Beth is a native of Kentucky, where a chance happening in high school landed her in art classes and eventually to win a prize that helped send her to college where she pursued an art minor. She came to North Carolina to attend Duke Divinity School but ended up training as an Occupational Therapist. Her practice is at the UNC burn unit.
Beth’s current work allows her to let go and to allow the medium to take her where it will. She might turn a watercolor canvas up at right angles to the surface, and allow the drips to send her on a journey of discovery: “What is this piece telling me it wants to be?,” she wonders.
Beth hosts an annual art show on her farm, the “Three Rivers Art Festival”, which will is scheduled the weekend of October 15th and 16th, 2011. There are still spaces available for artists of any medium.
This year’s festival promises to be worth the wait: food vendors, artists of every description and the beauty of southern Chatham. What more could any art lover require?
