The original advertisement was not much bigger than a postage stamp. But in the back of the The New Yorker magazine, the ad captured the eyes of a unique bunch of people.
Many residents of Fearrington Village were lured here from jobs in prestigious educational institutions, international outposts, and high-powered offices in towers that make up the skylines of big cities. Fearrington residents are generally a well-educated and well-traveled bunch. Many have circled the globe and been inspired by the finest museums, oldest libraries, and most exotic markets. For the past 30 years, folks with world-class talents and dog-eared passports have settled in this rural piece of paradise in northeast Chatham County and made art while they established homes here.
It’s in Camden Park, a Fearrington Village green space, where more than 30 artist members of Fearrington Artists Studios will participate in the annual Art in the Park. This year, Art in the Park will feature art and fine crafts for sale that include paintings, screen prints, drawings, collages, basketry, wood working, photography, fiber art, jewelry, sculpture, and pottery.
“It’s always fun to see a neighbor or new acquaintance react positively to your art and even comment, ‘I didn’t know you were THAT artist…or THAT good!'”, said Ginger Anderson, press liaison for Artists Studios in Fearrington Village.
Live music by local talent will provide tunes as visitors stroll the booths and see the diversity and quality of art. Young ones will have fun at one of four art stations providing mentored, hands-on art experiences for the kids to make their own original creations.

e is known for its Belted Galloway cows and an inn and restaurant that are rated with lots of diamonds and stars. Visit those while you’re in the village but remember that Fearrington residents add their own sparkle to this place and it shows in their art work. Thank goodness for that little ad that shone a light on Chatham and attracted these bright lights.
