Spotlight! Chatham County Arts Council Links Youth with Art in the Park!

Here’s a reason to put the Chatham County Arts Council on your radar:  We’re affecting the lives of young people in Chatham County via our Grassroots Grants Program!  Chatham County Together, a grant recipient this year, will use its grant dollars to pay local artists to teach youth how to create an outdoor mosaic using recycled materials for its Youth Garden in Siler City.

Chatham County Together works to guide children and youth to help them reach their full potential.  Based in Siler City, Chatham County Together encourages the lives of Chatham County youth through mentoring and tutoring services, family advocacy, and teen pregnancy prevention–and they’ve been doing this work since 1989!

We sat down with Chatham County Together’s Executive Director, the marvelous Kim Caraganis, to pick her brain about Chatham County Together, the arts, and life in Chatham County.  Here’s what she had to say about…

…the importance of the arts in Chatham County Together’s programming: “Life saving.  Many kids in Chatham County do not have an outlet to express themselves.  Art is an experience that is important to their soul.”

…in an ideal world:  “Everyone would have enough to eat, a comfortable place to live, and peacefulness to their lives.”

…life in Chatham County:   “is home, the people are warm and comforting.”

…artists she’s worked with:  “Creative.  Resourceful.  Eye-opening.”

Check out the Chatham County Together website to learn more and to find information about their annual “Tapas” fundraiser on April 6, 2014.

The Grassroots Arts Program is offered by Chatham County Arts Council through the generous assistance of the North Carolina Arts Council, an agency funded by the State of North Carolina and the National Endowment of the Arts, which believes that a great nation deserves great art.
