Go See This: Day of the Books / El Día de los Libros

James Vose is a local business owner, US Army Veteran, and father. He currently serves as a Pittsboro Town Commissioner and is committed to generating a vibrant cultural community through projects like our Go See This series. Vose Natural Stone is proud to be our 2024-2025 sponsor, and we are delighted to present an event near and dear to our hearts. Our favorite time of year is here, and we at the Chatham Arts Council invite you to Go See This…

If your little ones are ready to busy their hands again after the colorful whirlwind of ClydeFEST, you’re in luck—because on Saturday, April 26 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Bray Park in Siler City will be blooming with books, music, and make-and-take art as Chatham County Partnership for Children hosts its annual Day of the Books/El Día de los Libros. Families can enjoy a spring picnic, bilingual storytimes, and a full day of hands-on fun—all for free.

This one-of-a-kind festival celebrates early childhood with a joyful mix of literacy, creativity, and cultural pride. Kids will take home a free bilingual book, explore interactive art stations, and dance along to live performances that reflect the rich traditions of Latin America. The event is especially meaningful for many Siler City families, as it honors El Día del Niño, a Latin American holiday dedicated to children. The Chatham Arts Council is thrilled to help support this beloved gathering through the Grassroots Arts Grant, in partnership with the North Carolina Arts Council.

This year’s artist lineup is stacked with talent that’ll make the whole family smile. Get ready to dance to the rhythms of Diali Cissokho’s drumming, groove along with Mr. Skip’s Hot Tunes for Cool Kids, and marvel at Katie Rebich as she brings her high-flying magic to life through stilt-walking and circus play. Little ones can step into storytime with author Melissa Rooney, explore weaving with Robin Hall, and meet animated personalities with Makani McKenzie’s character play. The Magetsi 4H Danza Folklorica troupe will bring vibrant Latin American dance to the stage, and local favorite Cartoon Jordan will be on hand creating one-of-a-kind caricatures.

To keep the good energy (and tummies) full, The Quiltmaker Café is partnering with the event to provide free meals from their food truck, and Jeremiah’s Italian Ice of Pittsboro will be handing out a cool treat to every attendee.

This is the kind of Saturday that colorful, musical memories are made of. So bring the little ones, bring your love of books, and bring your dancing shoes—El Día de los Libros is the perfect way to celebrate spring with stories, color, and community spirit.

The event is supported by the North Carolina Arts Council, a division of the Department of Natural and Cultural Resources, with funding from the National Endowment for the Arts.
