“Wild Things”—The Paintings of Shannon Bueker

The Pittsboro Gallery of Arts is proud to present the works of guest artist, Shannon Bueker, in a Featured Artist Show that will be on display from Tuesday, September 8thth until Sunday, October 4th. There will be a reception on Friday, September 18th, from 5:00-8:00 pm.

Shannon Bueker has been an integral part of the arts in Chatham County for many decades. She is one of the founding members of the organization that became the Chatham Artists Guild, serving as president many times, and faithfully supporting the work of other artists as she crafted her own artistic career. She is one of the people responsible for making Chatham County a haven for artists and a destination for art lovers.

Bueker’s stunning acrylic and watercolor paintings are easily identifiable as her own; her color choices and incredible brushwork capture the energy of her subjects while maintaining artistic balance. This show, “Wild Things,” will include paintings that feature some of Bueker’s favorite subjects; visitors will see a Goddess figure carrying a bear in a bag around her waist, wild horses prancing, deer sedately grazing, rabbits and dogs and snakes and many, many more creatures practically cavorting off their canvases.

Bueker’s drawings and paintings have long been motivated by the need to respond to the beauty she sees around her. The amazing grace of trees and plants, the fluidity of animals, and the outrageous colors of the earth all provoke her to paint and draw. She sees her work as trying to reveal nature’s grace, unfolding the layers of interconnections and the surprising overlaps.

Bueker writes, “This life we have is a gift. It is a wonder to me that it comes in so many shapes, sizes, and forms.” Please join us at The Pittsboro Gallery of Arts as we celebrate the gifts of Shannon Bueker and her work.

The Pittsboro Gallery of Arts is an artist-owned cooperative Fine Art and Craft Gallery located a few steps north of the Chatham County Courthouse circle. Artist works include a variety of media: oil, acrylics, watercolor, high-voltage woodburning, wooden mobiles, pastel, pen and ink, photography, fused glass, ceramics, jewelry, basketry, mixed media, painted gourd vessels, and sculptural works in clay and wood.
