McIntyre’s Books in Fearrington Village will host world-renowned author and Raleigh native David Sedaris when he makes a rare live appearance at the Fearrington Barn on Friday, June 1.

Calypso is Sedaris’s first collection of essays in five years and features deeply personal, yet characteristically humorous, explorations of middle age and all of its ups and downs.  Sedaris’s wry humor may be just the tonic needed to appreciate the joys of maturity. This book is sure to strike a chord with fans far and wide.   We are lucky to have such a sharp observer guide us through life’s grown up experiences. Seeing him in person is a delightful opportunity not to be missed.

Sedaris has written 10 books, is a regular contributor to The New Yorker, is well known with NPR audiences in this country and with BBC audiences abroad, and has made appearances on many other TV and motion picture projects.  He now lives in England.

McIntyre’s Books is an independent bookstore in Fearrington Village that has graced the Village Center and gained national renown since 1989. McIntyre’s presents one of the largest author reading series in the South, hosting about 150 readings each year, featuring both nationally known artists and local talent.

McIntyre’s is a dedicated member of the Chatham community, championing literacy for our young citizens.  McIntyre’s sponsors the Reindeer Readers program, which gifts more than 1200 kindergarten and first grade students with a book to read over the holidays, and hosts the annual Chatham County Schools Young Authors Awards event. In February2018, the bookstore launched the Whirlikids Book Festival, an annual event sure to be eagerly awaited for young readers, their parents and teachers for years to come.
