Go See This: Pittsboro Youth Theater

Written by guest blogger, Selbe Bartlett.

Did you know that Chatham County had a public theater? In downtown Pittsboro, the county’s seat, is a delightful space called the Sweet Bee Theater. The community theater group that calls it home has been performing shows since 2012. Pittsboro Youth Theater is celebrating its sixth anniversary thanks to the dedication, resourcefulness, and hard work of Tammy Matthews and Craig Witter.

Pittsboro Youth Theater — or “PYT” as the cast lovingly refers to it — has performed more than 20 plays starring  80+ local children. Tammy and Craig continue to expand their repertoire. In the fall of 2017, PYT performed their first musical, Into the Woods, and are planning to do another musical this summer. Stay tuned for information on future productions!

The process of making plays and performing in them help teach many skills such as teamwork, collaboration, listening, verbal and presentation skills. So, aside from being a lot of fun, participants are learning lifelong lessons that will serve them well as members of the community.

If you haven’t had the pleasure of attending a play at the Sweet Bee Theater yet, fear not! Pittsboro Youth Theater has two productions on the horizon. People of all ages are invited to go see ensemble casts in productions inspired by William Shakespeare  – A Midsummer Night’s Dream and The Complete Works of Wm. Shakespeare, Abridged.
