Chatham Rabbits, The Bluegrass Experience, and Diali Cissokho all on one stage in the Chatham Beverage District?! Yep! Save the date for The Chatham Experience: Benefit Concert for Chatham Arts Council’s Artists-in-Schools Initiative, on Sunday, September 29!
This year’s event is a unique cross-generational fundraising concert, sponsored by Opus Financial Advisors, featuring musical performances by Chatham Rabbits, Tommy Edwards and The Bluegrass Experience (on their 48th anniversary!), Diali Cissokho, special guest students, and more! You’ll hear original music, traditional songs you know and love, folk music, tried and true bluegrass, West African folk music (with the kora!) and even young local students who will sit in and play with these well-known musicians – all amidst the fun, distinct backdrop of the Chatham Beverage District. You won’t want to miss incredible collaborations between young and distinguished musicians, who will be creating truly one-of-a-kind performances before your very eyes.

At The Chatham Experience, you can dance to live music, peruse Fair Game Beverage’s spirits, wine, beer, nibbles and treasures, or grab a pint at Chatham Ciderworks. Smelt Art Gallery will also host a special show featuring Chatham County artists featured in the CAC’s “Meet This Artist” series, along with art from Chatham County Schools students. There’s something for everyone at the Chatham Arts Council’s fall fundraiser this year.
The heart and soul behind this event is our Artists-in-Schools Initiative. This year, we brought artists into all ten traditional public elementary schools in Chatham County. That’s right. All ten! What did that look like, you may ask? A program that made 24 direct curriculum connections, enhancing the lives of nearly 3,000 students. And we have big goals for next year. We’re hoping to expand the AIS initiative to Chatham Charter School, Willow Oak Montessori, and Woods Charter School so that we are reaching every public elementary school in Chatham County. Help us reach our goal by attending this unique event on September 29.
