ChathamArts’ Extreme Arts Weekend Picks for August 19 – 20

ChathamArts’ Extreme Art Weekend Adventure Picks:

This Friday in PBO: Higher Ground Singer Songwriter Showcase Benefit followed by 80s Dance at Davenport & Winkleperry. AND the Steampunks’ Clockwork Ball happens this Saturday, August 20th.

1. Joyful Jewel’s Higher Ground Singer Songwriter Showcase, Friday, August 19, 7 – 9 pm:
44 A Hillsboro Street, Pittsboro

Nationally acclaimed and locally rooted singer-songwriters will perform to benefit the Jordan Lake Partnership for a clean and sparkling lake and environment. Susan Ketchin, award-winning singer-songwriter, has assembled an all-star group of singers and songwriters for this event including her daughter from Midtown Dickens, Sarah Shook, Elizabeth Haddix, Brenda Linton, Jim Henderson, Rick Lassiter with Joyce Bowden, . Admission is free; all will be donated to the coalition to protect the l…ake and its environment for fish, wildlife, recreational users here in Chatham County and beyond.

2. At the Davenport Winkleperry Steampunk Gallery: ATOMIC at Davenport and Winkleperry, 9 pm: It’s Steampunk 80’s night! Friday, August 19, 9 pm – ’til you drop.
18A East Salisbury Street, Pittsboro

ATOMIC is an 80’s Dance Party held on the third Saturday of every month at Davenport & Winkleperry in Pittsboro, NC with resident DJ Mouse, as well as, guest DJs. They’ll spin an eclectic mix of New Wave, Synthpop, as well as, other 80’s music. When you have that irrepressible urge to break out the mousse and blue eye shadow, there’s only one “killer” place to rock your lobster. ATOMIC brings “Love My Way”, “Poison Arrow” and “Goody Two Shoes” back to the dance floor and visions of Martin Fry and Klaus Nomi. People are welcome to dress accordingly; go ahead and relive those memories of the ‘rents wringing their hands and pleading “Why can’t you wear something cheery?” Doors at 8pm, Music starts at 9pm. Attention Pilots of Airships and their Crews, Mad Scientists, Explorers of the Unknown, Admirers of Verbosity, Respecters of the Strange, Those Lost in the Throes of Opium or Absinthe, Teetotalers, Scallywags, Ladies and Gentlemen, Dandies, Fops, and Urchins… It’s that time once again for THE CLOCKWORK BALL! Hosted by the Davenport Sisters. Jazz, Blues, Swing, Dark Cabaret, Gypsy Punk, & Dance music from times gone by or times that never were.
