Go See This: Hispanic Heritage Fiesta

As Chatham Park continues to develop its community, they remain dedicated to supporting local art in Chatham County. As part of that commitment, Chatham Park is powering our Go See This series. They join us in inviting you to Go See This . . .

On Saturday, September 17, Siler City will transform into a colorful and musical celebration of Latin culture as it celebrates this year’s Hispanic Heritage Fiesta, hosted by the Hispanic Liaison.

The festivities will take place in downtown Siler City from 12-6pm, and will feature live music, dancing, activities, fresh food, and–of course!–art. “This year, we’ve added more games and activities,” says Ilana Dubester, executive director and founder of the Hispanic Liaison. “We will have a video game truck, henna tattoos, face painting, a piñata, flip-flop bowling, an obstacle course, a basketball hoop, and more. We’ll also be offering COVID-19 vaccines for kids 6 months and older, provided by Piedmont Health Services.”

Opportunities to see live music and dancing abound at the Fiesta, including Mariachi Mexico 2000, who have been performing at the Fiesta since its early days when it was at Bray Park, and Takiri Folkloric Dance, who you may recognize from our ClydeFEST and Truck-and-Trailer events.

The Fiesta is a family-friendly event, with something for everyone. “Fiesta is a celebration for the entire community, and everyone is welcome!” says Ilana. “The event is organized by El Vínculo in partnership with an organizing committee of 23 Latinx community members. It is the one time a year when our community has the opportunity to celebrate and showcase our rich cultural traditions and impart cultural pride to our children.”

The featured artist for this year’s event is Leticia Alvarez, who is originally from Mexico. Leticia’s work will be displayed at the NC Arts Incubator.

In addition to food, music, and dancing, the day will conclude with a parade honoring quinceañeras. As Ilana says, “Eat great food, enjoy live Latin music and dancing, learn about more than 70 businesses, nonprofits, and government agencies, play games, and participate in (or just enjoy) our parade of traditional outfits and quinceañeras!”

So bring the kids, your appetite, and perhaps your dancing shoes to join in the fun!
