Go See This: Holiday Cookies and Cards at Wren Memorial Library

Connie Fenner is a local business owner, community connector, and proud breast cancer survivor. She’s committed to supporting orgs that bring people together to create healthier communities, including powering our Go See This series this season. The winter holidays are upon us, and we invite you to Go See This . . .

‘Tis the season to be jolly, and Wren Memorial Library in Siler City welcomes children of all ages to join them for Holiday Cookies and Cards! This Wednesday, December 20, you and your family are welcome to go enjoy scrumptious cookies and spread holiday cheer through creative card-making. If you’re on the lookout for a free, indoor, family-friendly celebration that encapsulates the true spirit of the season–and gives you the chance to make a little holiday art–your search ends here!

A Little Art Can Bring a Lot of Joy

There is a heartwarming “why” behind this event. Branch Manager Tabatha Weaver notes that this is all part of Wren Memorial Library’s larger effort to reach out to those in the community who cannot physically come to the library and benefit from the programming offered there. “How do we reach those people?” she asks. “The holidays are coming up, and many of our neighbors in aging or other healthcare centers may be spending the holidays alone. The county library system has added an outreach coordinator, Crystal Johnson, and so our team identified an opportunity to bring joy to the homebound individuals in our community. We thought, let’s have kids make a card, and we can hand deliver it to those people who could use an extra dose of joy.”

Participants can join in the fun and create their own personalized cards, spreading smiles across the county. The library staff will be on hand to guide kids through the artistic process and provide examples of handmade cards. A little art can go a long way to bringing a smile–for the cardmaker and the card receiver!

Connection and Belonging through the Literary Arts

Holiday Cookies and Cards wouldn’t be possible without the generous support of Friends of the Wren Memorial Library, a nonprofit organization committed to enhancing the impact, reach, and social support provided by our beloved public library. Libraries are full of literary art. And they’re more than justLogo for nonprofit Friends of the Wren Memorial Library. spaces housing books—they’re sanctuaries connecting people to information and, more importantly, connecting people to each other. With a focus on raising awareness and providing support through book sales, sponsorships, and grant writing, Friends of the Wren Memorial Library aims to foster a sense of belonging and community spirit. Thanks to their generosity, delectable cookies will be provided for all attendees, ensuring everyone leaves with a heart full of warmth and a belly full of sweetness after they get artsy with their cardmaking.

After the Cards and the Cookies

Cardmaking art is just the tip of the snowman! As we unwrap the new year, a flurry of excitement awaits library patrons, including Yu-Gi-Oh! gaming nights, FamFlix movie nights, family cooking classes (registration required), Teen Library Club sessions, and engaging History Social events. For a complete list of WML’s programming, visit the events calendar on the county website. Follow them on Facebook and subscribe to their monthly newsletter to stay up to date with everything going on at Wren Memorial Library. Join your neighbors in Siler City in creating lasting memories that will echo through the book stacks and beyond!
