Meet This Artist: Eva Green, Basketweaver

We can all paint by numbers, but not everyone can make it up like Picasso. We can follow people on TV, but if I give you seven ingredients and you can make a meal out of it, I would say that’s more of the artistic side.

Go See This: Hewitt Pottery Holiday Kiln Opening

a display of large ceramic pots lined up on a lawn in front of a studio building

“There’s a history behind having these kiln openings in North Carolina that goes back to the Moravians,” says Mark Hewitt. “There are even records of colonial militia men being called in to regulate the unruly pottery buying crowds back in the 1780s.”

Meet This Artist: Bronwyn Watson, Ceramics Artist

There’s always an element of whimsy in my work. There’s always a little bit of a fairytale whimsy to it, and it just comes out, and there it is. It’s almost unintentional. It’s just there.

Meet This Artist: Steve Fagan, working with metal, wood, stained glass, and anything else that interests him

Smiling white man in gray henley shirt looking down at his drafting in his metal and woodworking shop.

Ever since he was a kid, Fagan has been a doer. Want to play punk guitar? He figured it out. Want to switch to old-time guitar? He figured it out. Want to build a cabin? He figured it out. Want to build a hydroelectric generator in a stream? Want to work with wood? Glass? Want to work with metal and wood and glass? Want to build high-dollar decks and mixed-media garden gates and trellises? Want to live as you wish without compromising your ideals? He figured it out.

Meet This Artist: Lisa Fedele, Fostering Creativity, Collaboration, and Innovation

Smiling woman in glasses and a black jacket. Standing with collection of folk art.

There’s a direct line for me between entrepreneurship, innovation, and creativity. So I think it’s a really important thing to evangelize.Look at my father, who had a third grade education. My father was a diesel mechanic, but at his core he was an artist and a maker. I think about how many kids, very much like my father, don’t know that creativity is a path out of poverty, a path to the world. I want to help people realize that your choice isn’t between working in retail or working at a plant. Entrepreneurship is a choice. Creativity is a driver.
